NSWGR 48 Class

Introduced in 1959, the NSWGR 48 class were built by AE Goodwin of Auburn NSW. These ALCO DL531s were ordered to commence the conversion of branch lines to diesel traction. With 165 in service by October 1970, they saw extensive use across the state, and still serve today. Variations were also built as the SAR 830 class, plus three for the Silverton Railway.

Mini Train Systems is building these locomotives in 5" gauge, with a powerful 900w 24v drive package that easily handles 4 loaded straddle carriages on most tracks.

We have loaded an extreme level of detail into these locos, and are customising each delivery to reflect the four versions (Mark 1-4), along with each sub-type.

With high power and great details, in addition these engines feature:

  • Key operated disable switch
  • Power connector for driving car mounted battery
  • 'Break away' disable feature
  • Improved Hand Held tether control.
  • MTS MU (Multiple Unit) Control System. This enables two or more engines to be coupled together and driven by the one driver. Power and control jumper cables link the locos together. Compatible with all MTS MU engines.
